In May 1756, 16-year-old Thomas Brown joined Rogers' Rangers to fight the French and Indians. Eight months later, he was severely wounded and taken prisoner at the First Battle on Snowshoes outside Fort Ticonderoga. For the next three years he endured truly "uncommon sufferings," which included abuse at the hands of Indians, the torture and murder of friends, blistering cold, near starvation, and flirtation with cannibalism.

After returning home in January 1760 he wrote a brief account of his experience.

It is republished here in standalone format for the first time in over 260 years by Frontier Thesis Press.
